Quality of Silence The Steve Davis Project, SACD-04
Steve Davis - drums
Drew Gress - bass
John Hart - guitar
Andy LaVerne - piano
Tim Ries - saxophone
Quality of Silence on Super Audio Compact Disc is a concept recording performed by five seasoned
jazz musicians with the underlying premises that less is more. Having preached
this belief for ages, producers Steve Davis and Tom Jung began a search of
quality players and quality music for what became a quality album of enchanting
measures.
Quality of Your Silence,
Bye Bye Blackbird, One Two Free,
I Thought About You, Yesterdays,
Infant Eyes, Free to Be Me
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, I'm Old Fashioned, Freedom
The
Steve Davis Project, Quality of Silence, DMP SACD-04, dual-layer SACD.
Tom
Jung’s work at DMP is a serious wonder to behold. We received the first batch
of DMPs just after our last issue went to press, and they have provoked some
strongly favorable reactions from the SACD-equipped contingent here at PF.
This particular disc features the Steve Davis Project (Steve Davis, drums; Tim
Ries, soprano sax; Drew Gress, bass; John Hart, guitar; Andy LaVerne, piano), a
very talented jazz ensemble. From the opening of the title cut to songs like
“One Two Free” and “I Thought About You,” this recording haunts you with
understatement, smoke, and reveries. What Jung is getting out of his recordings
is remarkable; the sense of space and his capturing of timbre and
(especially!) percussives is a lesson in the possibilities of audio
engineering and DSD. I love this disc; you will too!
The
skinny: An exceptional recording, meriting a Ye Olde Editor’s “highly
recommended.” Reprinted with permission from David Robinson of Positive Feedback Magazine
This dual-layer Hybrid
SACD can be played in both a standard CD player and a Super Audio CD player.
When played in a Super Audio player, you will experience pure 1bit Direct Stream
Digital playback.
