The SACD format squarely addresses the concerns that audiophiles have had with the Compact Disc since its inception. To many the current CD format sounds just fine, but to some of us, a higher resolution medium is necessary to make recorded music sound more like it does when we experience it live. The underlying technology here is DSD (Direct Stream Digital). DSD is a simplified way to convert and store high quality audio by using a 1-bit word sampled at 2.8224 million times per second. DMP SACD's are recorded directly to DSD at the original recording session taking full advantage of this great technology. The result, music that sounds much closer to the original analog input and can be mastered bit for bit to SACD giving the listener the same level of quality the engineers hear at the original sessions. All DMP SACD's are hybrid and are compatible with all existing CD players because they contain two layers, one standard 16-bit/44.1 layer and one high density DSD layer, the later requiring an SACD capable player. All recent DMP SACD's are recorded in surround sound, creating and even more life like natural listening experience by placing the listener in the space where the music was actually performed. |
